Getting from the Airport to Your Hotel

Getting around Riviera Nayarit is the first challenge facing most visitors, especially getting from the airport to their hotel. There are several options available, from exclusive VIP transportation to taxis, rental cars, and all the way down to city buses.

Taxis – Airport Taxi is the most common form of transportation. You can purchase an airport taxi ticket inside the airport at rates posted at the ticket counter. A taxi from the Puerto Vallarta International Airport to the resort area of Nuevo Vallarta will cost about $215 pesos or about US$18, depending on the exchange rate. An Airport taxi from the Tepic Airport to the resort community of San Blas will cost about 600 pesos or about US$50. Public Transportation in Nayarit

Taking the bus in Riviera Nayarit is both easy and entertaining. It can sometimes be likened to an extreme sport. You don’t need any special gear but please hang on, you’re in for the ride of your life.

There are some slightly longer route buses that can take you to some very nice beaches on the north side of the Banderas Bay.

The ATM (Autostransportes Medina) bus line runs along the Nuevo Vallarta to Punta de Mita road and fares depend on the area you are going to.

  • Nuevo Vallarta – $13 pesos
  • Bucerías – $18 pesos
  • Destiladeras Beach – $20 pesos
  • Punta Mita (El Anclote Beach) – $23 pesos.

The Compostela-Pacifico bus line (White & Green buses) has service to Sayulita, San Francisco (San Pancho) and Rincón de Guayabitos.

To get to Puerto Vallarta, look for a ATM bus (Autostransportes Medina) – the price is $6.50 pesos and it takes you to within walking distance of the Malecon. Simply look for a bus with CENTRO painted on it.

Getting back is a little tricky. Take a bus to WallMart for $6.50 pesos, then take a bus to Bucerias for $13 pesos (there are no transfers).

TIP: You might need to flag a bus down for them to stop and it’s best to bring exact change if possible.

You may have onboard entertainment on the Nayarit buses. Sometimes an individual will get on to the bus and will sing, play guitar, or just try to entertain, which of course is based on tips. If you enjoyed the show, feel free to tip a few pesos.

Taxi Service in Riviera Nayarit

City White taxis are usually located in front of each major resort hotel and also in many of the coastal towns. Costs for City White taxis to select destinations will vary based on table below. You can also get a Taxi for approximately $300 pesos per hour (1/2 or full day discounts are also available).
