Southeastern Nayarit has two outstanding towns with uncommonly beautiful natural scenery.
Its lake is located in a volcanic crater. With an average temperature of 77°F (25°C), it is perfect for boating, kayaking, water skiing and sport fishing. The surrounding area is great for mountain biking, hiking or bird watching. On shore, restaurants serve fish and seafood and there are two luxurious boutique hotels. In town, be sure to see the Templo del Señor de la Ascencion. A great alternative is Real de Acuitapilco, with a recreation center of luxury cabins amid waterfalls, springs and the ruins of an old hacienda.
At San Pedro Lake, you can fish for bass and tilapia and photograph the scenery. Along the shore, restaurants serve fish and seafood. The Laguna de Tepetiltic is also set in the crater of a volcano. The town of the same name is located on the shore and has a small boardwalk, where stands shaded with umbrellas serve fried fish. The area is good for mountain biking, camping and canoeing. In the municipal seat, visit the Templo de San Pedro Apostol, the Community Museum and Terebintos Garden.
